Jenn – Jenns Trip to Spain!,Spain,6

I survived my birthday weekend!  I am now officially 21 years old – so weird!  We started off the weekend going on a wine tour in Jerez de la Frontera on Friday (which is about an hour bus ride from Sevilla).  The bodega (vineyard) was called  Bodegas Gonzalez Byass – it was neat to see!  It was a sherry vineyard – we got to try the wine after, a very dry one and a very sweet one – I did not like them at all!  The sweet wine tasted like drinking pure sugar (yuck!)

Saturday we spent the day relaxing before the official Sevilla Futbol game!! (Soccer game!)  Before the game, we did the very american thing and went to a place called Telepizza (basically a pizzahut joint) and enjoyed nice, greasy pizza before the game – it was great!  The game was very cool to see – there was not many fans there because it had been raining all day and its an outdoor stadium!  Luckily, the rain literally stopped right before the game and started again right after – we definitily got lucky!  The game was between Sevilla and Zaragoza and Sevilla won 5-0.  It was interesting to watch because the players were pretty aggressive, when they knocked into eachother they would fall on the ground, appearing to be in lots of pain (in attempt to get a card pulled on the opposite team) and then get up, walk away a couple seconds later – que extrano!  The fans were great too – they cheered the entire game and would sing: Sevilla, Sevilla, Sevillllllllllla!  It was a fun atmosphere!  We were right outside the stadium at midnight – when everyone proceeded to sing Happy Birthday, feliz cumpleanos, etc to me!  What a once and a lifetime experience – to be at a Spanish soccer game on your 21st birthday.

On Sunday (my official birthday) a couple of us got up to watch the Sevilla Marathon.  There were all sorts of people running it – mostly middle-aged men, with very short shorts and tank tops were running it.  Later in the afternoon some girls and I went out for dessert – we were craving traditional birthday cake – a big slice of chocolate cake, but instead ordered something very different.  I got “ice cake” and it turned out to be basically ice cream in the shape of cubes, while other girls got very different things as well!  When in Spain, eat as a Spaniard!

Overall, the weekend was very fun!  It was very nice and relaxing to be in Sevilla for a weekend.  We also had the chance to see local attractions!  Next stop:  Amsterdam on Feb. 28th – will write after that 🙂
